Unlock a cell phone to use with TracFone with an unlock code.
When you want to use a cell phone that was originally registered with another carrier, you first have to remove the network lock from the device. You can remove the lock with the use of an unlock code, and then activate the device with a wireless carrier such as TracFone. Contact the service provider to retrieve the unlock code for your cell phone.
Instructions
1. Dial "*#06#" from your cell phone, and wait for the status menu to appear.
2. Locate the International Mobile Equipment Identifier (IMEI) number, and write it down.
3. Dial "611" from the mobile phone, or contact the wireless carrier directly from a landline phone. Follow the prompts to speak with a representative.
4. Ask the representative to provide you with the unlock code for your cell phone. Provide the representative with the IMEI number from your phone.
5. Power off your mobile phone.
6. Remove the battery cover and the battery.
7. Remove the SIM card. Depending upon the model of your cell phone, you may need to insert a SIM card from another wireless carrier.
8. Reinsert the battery and compartment.
9. Power on the mobile phone, and wait for your device to prompt you to enter the "Network" or "Special" code.
10. Enter the unlock code in the same manner that it was given to you by the wireless carrier.
11. Wait for the device to restart. This is an indication that the network lock is removed and the device is unlocked.
12. Contact TracFone, and inform the representative that you want to activate an unlocked phone.
13. Provide the representative with the information requested, such as your name, billing address and credit card information (if applicable).
14. Provide the representative with the electronic serial number (ESN), make and model of the unlocked phone. On most mobile phones, the ESN can be found inside the battery compartment on a label.
15. Wait for the representative to setup your account.
16. Wait for an SIM card to arrive in the mail.
17.Insert the SIM card into the SIM card slot on your phone.
18. Follow the instructions that accompanied the SIM card to activate your unlocked phone on the TracFone network.
