Set Up Gprs On A Mobile Phone

Contact your service provider to enable GPRS on your cell phone.

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a wireless service that allows the transmission of data packets across a mobile network through Internet protocol. A distinct feature of GPRS is that the service divides data into packets before sending, allowing a continuous connection to the Internet and quicker download speeds. Using GPRS will require a service provider that offers such service and a mobile phone with GPRS capabilities. The setup on a mobile phone will vary according to the manufacturer and the service provider, with most having differing configurations.

Instructions

1. Take the battery out of your phone and look at the sticker underneath. You will find a list of numbers on that sticker. You want to find either and IMEI number or a MEID number. You will find one of the other, but not both. This number identifies your handset. Write this number down on a piece of paper.

2. Call your mobile service provider technical support line from another phone. Tell the representative that you want to enable GPRS on your mobile phone. The representative will need your handset's identification number to verify your type of phone. Give the representative the make and model of you phone as well.

3. Put your battery back into your phone and turn it on. The representative will send you the required settings by SMS to set up GPRS on your specific phone, to work with the provider's service.

4. Open the SMS and follow the instructions to save the settings to your particular phone. Some providers may need to send more that one message for all of the settings. If this is the case, the representative will inform you beforehand. If the representative does not have codes to automatically configure your phone, he may help you configure the settings manually or may transfer your call to a higher level of technical support to accomplish the task.
