Use Voicemail

Voicemail allows callers who can't reach you to leave messages, similar to the answering machines of olden days. You can then call a number to retrieve those messages. While an answering machine will work with any landline phone, you must be home to check messages. Voicemail makes it so you don't need to be at home to access your voicemail account. Furthermore, any phone capable of placing calls can link you to your messages.

Instructions

1. Dial your own phone number.

2. Press the "*" key when you hear your voicemail greeting. If that fails, press "#" on your phone.

3. Enter the PIN number for your voicemail account. If you have not created a PIN, try "0000" or "1234" as default pins. Check with your voicemail provider for the actual default PIN if neither works. If you only have the default PIN, you will be prompted to create a new one.

4. Listen to the options given in the menu. Typically, options include "Press one to hear new messages" or "Press two to review saved messages." Press the option corresponding to the task you want to do.
