Mute A Telephone Call

Muting a telephone call is a way to silence the mouthpiece on your phone, so it doesn't transmit any noise to the parties on the other end of the line. You'll still be able to hear what others are saying, but they can't hear you. Muting is typically used during conference calls.

Instructions

1. Look at the telephone or read the owner's manual to find the mute button. Many phones have a mute button that turns off the microphone, or you can select the mute option from a menu on your phone's screen. Each model has it's own muting system, so figure out how yours works and test it out.

2. Review your headset if you have one. Many headsets have a call control button on them that mutes the microphone.

3. Check to see if your phone has "flip silent" capabilities. If your cell phone has this function, you can simply flip your phone 180-degrees to mute the phone during a call.

4. Push the star button at the bottom of the number pad, then press "6" once you're connected to your call. Do the same thing to turn the mute off if you need to speak. This is a way to mute a call regardless of what kind of phone you're using.
