Reinstall Your Computer Sound Card

Many different hardware components make up a computer system, including disk drives, display adapters, keyboards, mice, network adapters and sound cards. Each device requires that the appropriate device driver be installed to allow communication between the operating system, the software applications and the device. A corrupted device driver is often the culprit of a sound card malfunction. Reinstall your computer sound card driver to ensure the sound properly works on your system.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel." Click "System and Security" from the Control Panel and then click "Device Manager" under "System." Enter your administrator password if prompted. The Device Manager launches.

2. Right-click "Sound, video and game controllers," and click "Scan for hardware changes." Your computer will automatically scan for the sound card installed on your computer and install the appropriate sound driver from the system files.

3. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
