Unlock A Nokia 3500

Unlock the SIM card on your Nokia 3500 so that you can use it abroad.

The Nokia 3500 was released in 2007 with a simple design and a 2-megapixel camera. If you purchased your phone on a contract with a network service provider, then it came locked to that particular network. To use the Nokia 3500 while you are traveling abroad, you will need to get it unlocked -- or pay expensive roaming charges.

Instructions

1. Dial the code "*#06#" into your Nokia 3500's keypad. Wait for the 15-digit IMEI number to appear. When it does, write it down. You will need this to create your unlock code.

2. Call your mobile service carrier's customer service phone number. If you don't know it, you can find it on their website. Ask them for an unlock code for your phone. Generally, they will give you a code as long as you have been a customer for 90 days. However the requirements will vary from provider to provider. If they won't give you a code, you will need to purchase one.

3. Click "Start," "Internet Explorer." Navigate to a site that allows you to purchase unlock codes for the Nokia 3500. Some examples are FoneZones, TimTechs and Unlocking. A single code costs about $15 as of December 2010.

4. Enter your IMEI number, the make and model of your phone, your email address and your payment information. Your code will be sent to your email address.

5. Turn the phone off and remove the battery. Take out the SIM chip and insert another one from a different cell phone provider. You can buy a new SIM at a local store for about $20 as of December 2010.

6. Turn your Nokia 3500 on and your phone asks you to enter a "Special Code." Type in your unlock code and press "OK." Wait for it to restart. Once it comes on, you will see the name of the new network at the top of the screen.
