Fring is a mobile messaging application, offering text, voice and video chat capabilities. The application runs on smartphone platforms, allowing you to save your allotted minutes and text messages, making free calls to other Fring users. Fring can also plug into popular instant messaging protocols -- Google Talk, AIM, Windows Live Messenger -- to chat with friends on multiple networks. In late 2010, Fring begain offering the ability to call landlines and mobile phones via an actual phone number, known as FringOut. You must purchase calling credit to sign up for FringOut.
Instructions
1. Download the Fring application on your phone. To do this, open up the application marketplace and search for "Fring." Click "Download/Install." The Fring application is free.
2. Open the application. You are prompted to create an account. Follow the instructions to create a Fring account if you do not have one. If you do, tap "Login" and enter your account credentials.
3. Select "FringOut" once you are logged in. Depending on the platform, this may be within the "Options" menu, but could be in the main menu.
4. Select "Buy Credit." Enter the amount of talk time in U.S. currency you wish to add to your Fring account. Select your payment method. Enter your payment information and follow the remaining instructions to complete the transaction. Once complete, your Fring account is credited.
5. Select "Dialer," enter the phone number you wish to dial and tap "FringOut Call" to start the call. Your Fring number will display on your contact's caller ID.
