Retrieve Memory From My Sim Card

Underside of a SIM card.

Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards are small white data chips used to activate your GSM handset. They store important details about your handset and wireless account. Many times, they are also used to backup data from your phone, such as contacts and text messages. If you have deleted any of your contacts or text messages from your handset, you may be able to retrieve them from your SIM card using a SIM reading memory stick.

Instructions

1. Remove the back cover and battery from your cell phone.

2. Remove the small, rectangular, white data chip; this is the SIM card. Be careful not to touch the copper contacts on the back, this may cause the phone to not fail in reading the SIM card once it's reinserted.

3. Insert the SIM card into the SIM card reader. Insert the SIM card contact side down into the slot on the USB SIM card memory stick.

4. Insert the SIM card reader (memory stick) into the USB Port located on the tower of your desktop PC or the perimeter of your laptop.

5. Go to the "Start" menu and open the "My Computer" folder. Locate the name of the memory stick, and double-click it. This should launch the software that has come with the memory stick, if the memory stick has not come with any software, double clicking the drive will just open the contents of the memory stick.

6. Open the folder that you want to retrieve the data from. Most SIM card recovery sticks open deleted text messages, contacts or pictures only. You can get to these files by double-clicking the folders they are housed in.

7. Close the folders, once you are done viewing the files, then unplug the memory stick.
