Problems With Synchronizing Outlook On A Blackberry

Restart your phone after troubleshooting Outlook synchronizing.

You may encounter problems when synchronizing Microsoft Outlook with a BlackBerry through the "Desktop Software" application. Problems can arise from your synchronization settings or previously installed versions of Desktop Software. Depending on the nature of the problem, you have the ability to troubleshoot and resolve it without technical assistance.

Security Software

Your security software can present challenges when you are attempting to synchronize your Outlook data to your BlackBerry through Desktop Software. If syncing stops unexpectedly or Desktop Software closes without warning, disable your security software. Security software includes your antivirus protection and firewall. Close and re-open Desktop Software after disabling your security software. Start the synchronizing process again when the application launches.

Uninstall Desktop Manager

Continued problems with synchronizing Outlook on your BlackBerry may be the result of previous versions of Desktop Software installed on your computer. When you install the newest version of the application on your computer, it does not automatically uninstall the previous versions. Open your computer's "Control Panel" and click "Programs" to view all of the programs installed on your computer. Click the previous version of Desktop Software, and then click "Uninstall." Restart your computer and attempt to synchronize again.

Missing Calendar Entries

If calendar entries are missing after synchronizing Outlook with your BlackBerry smartphone, check your phone's settings. You can only sync one calendar with your phone. If you have other calendar applications installed on your computer besides Outlook, change your settings. Press the "Menu" key on your BlackBerry and click "Options." Click "Device," and then click "Advanced System Settings." Click "Default Services" and select "Outlook" as your default. Attempt to sync again.

Duplicate Data

Depending on the settings of BlackBerry Desktop Software, Outlook data that is synced with your phone may be duplicated. When this occurs, adjust your synchronization settings. Launch Desktop Software and click "Organizer." Click "Configure Settings," and then click "Outlook." Click "Advanced," and then click "Conflict Resolution." Uncheck the "Add All Conflicting Items" and "Ignore All Conflicting Items" boxes. Click "Apply," and then click "OK."
