Fix A Flip Phone That Won'T Stay Closed

Dropping the phone could damage the flip mechanism.

Cellphone technology continues to evolve, and various models exist -- including the flip phone. With the earpiece separate from the mouthpiece, flip phones fold up into a pocket-sized piece when not in use, but they flip open to double the length when in use. If your flip phone won't stay closed, it will need maintenance to get it closing correctly again. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use a small screwdriver to remove the screws holding the faceplate on the phone. The faceplate protects the hinges, which you will need to access. Some phones require the use of a T6 screwdriver.

2. Loosen the screws under the faceplate to pull the lid off the phone, exposing the hinge itself.

3. Pull the hinge pin out of the slots that hold it in place. Some phones require you to remove an additional screw from the base of the phone that also holds the hinge in place.

4. Slide a new hinge into the slot or replace the top piece entirely if one of the hinge holders is damaged. If you're replacing the top piece on the phone, pop the LCD screen out of the old one and place it in the new one, and then replace the hinge pin.

5. Return the screws back to their previous positions and tighten them down, screwing in the faceplate last to cover the hinge again.
