What Is Navteq Traffic On A Sony Gps

NAVTEQ monitors road and traffic conditions.

Sony announced in 2010 they would begin adding NAVTEQ applications to their global positioning systems (GPS) monitors. NAVTEQ is a mapping application that monitors traffic and road conditions to help drivers select the best routes to their destinations at any given time.

Company

NAVTEQ was founded in California's Silicon Valley in 1985 and has changed hands several times since, most recently being purchased by Nokia in 2007. The company's focus is on technology and geography and builds software that collects detailed traffic data for large metropolitan areas.

Application

NAVTEQ uses more than 80,000 sources worldwide, including field reports from more than 100 million users of the software. The NAVTEQ database monitors locations, road features, traffic restrictions, points of interest and more, and continually updates NAVTEQ maps with the latest data.

Mapreporter

NAVTEQ users can submit their own reports on local roads and conditions through the Mapreporter.com website. Users and non-users can also view NAVTEQ maps on that site.
