Replace The Hard Drive In A Compaq Presario 2100

The Compaq Presario 2100 series of laptops has a wide range of available configurations, ensuring that there is an option suitable for home office, student or corporate use. In its base configuration, the Presario 2100 comes equipped with a 1.6 GHz Celeron processor, 128 MB of DDR SDRAM, 30 GB of hard drive space, a DVD-ROM optical drive and a 14.1-inch TFT display. If your run out of hard drive space or suffer a hardware failure, it may prove necessary to replace the hard drive in your Compaq Presario 2100. Fortunately, the procedure is straightforward; the directions are outlined below.

Replacement


1. Shut down any currently-active applications and turn off the laptop. Disconnect the AC adapter and any attached peripherals.


2. Turn the laptop over. If necessary, rotate the laptop until the front edge is facing you. Locate the battery release latch near the center; slide and hold the latch, then pull the battery out of the left side of the laptop.


3. Locate the two hard drive tray screw plugs near the center of the front edge of the laptop. Remove the plugs and unscrew the hard drive screws. Pull the hard drive tray out of the drive bay.


4. Remove the four screws securing the hard drive to the hard drive tray. Remove the connector bar located on the back edge of the hard drive. Set the hard drive aside.


5. Place the connector bar on the corresponding port on the back edge of your replacement hard drive. Place this hard drive in the hard drive tray and secure it in place with the four screws. Slide the hard drive tray into the drive bay, then secure the bay in place with the two hard drive tray screws. Replace the hard drive tray screw plugs.


6. Reinsert the battery. Reconnect the AC adapter and any previously-connected peripherals. Turn on your laptop and place your operating system's installation CD in the optical drive. Follow the onscreen directions; after the operating system is installed, restore other applications and data as needed. Your laptop is now ready for use.
