Tether With Verizon

Tether With Verizon

If you lead a busy lifestyle and require the constant use of Internet service, you may be considering mobile broadband. By tethering your Verizon Wireless phone to your laptop, you have the ability to access the Internet regardless of where you are. In addition, you can also tether your cell phone to your desktop computer. It is essential that you review mobile broadband and tethering details carefully, as it can sometimes add a significant cost to your cell phone bill.

Instructions

1. Verify that your phone can be tethered. According to Verizon Wireless, smart phones, Blackberry devices and certain handsets can be used for broadband plans. Check your service agreement, contact customer service at (800) 922-0204 or visit verizonwireless.com to ensure that your phone will connect to the Internet.

2. Purchase a Broadband Connect plan. As of 2009, plans range in price from $15 to $49.99 depending on your broadband needs and the type of device you plan on tethering. Be aware that the cost is separate from your regular mobile plan. In addition, if you use a Blackberry phone, you must purchase the Blackberry Unlimited Data Solution for the broadband service to function.

3. Install the VZAccess Manager on your computer. The application allows you to access the broadband network. The installation disk is included in the packaging for all Verizon broadband-capable phones. If you no longer have your disk, you can download the application for free online at vzam.net.

4. Connect your phone. Use the USB cord that came with your phone and connect your device to your computer. Open the VZAccess Manager and click the red connection button. Enter your cell phone number when prompted. You will see a pop-up on the right-hand side of your screen once you're connected.
