Configure Outlook Express To Yahoo Mail

Configure Outlook Express to Yahoo Mail

Outlook Express is an e-mail system developed by Microsoft. It allows users to send and receive e-mail as well as catch up on the latest news. Outlook Express also lets you configure e-mail address from other providers. For example, if you have a Yahoo e-mail account, it can be configured with Outlook so you can send and receive e-mail without logging into the Yahoo website.

Instructions

1. Turn on your computer and open Outlook Express.

2. Open the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts."

3. Choose the "Mail" tab at the top of the window. Click on the "Add" button and choose the "Mail" option.

4. Type in your display name and press "Next." The display name is what appears to other people when you send an e-mail, so in most cases you should type your actual name. If the e-mail address is designated for a business, you could also type in the business name as the display name.

5. Type in the Yahoo e-mail address and press "Next."

6. Choose "POP3" from the mail server pull-down menu. Type in "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the designated "incoming mail server" box. Type in "plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" in the "outgoing mail server" box. Click on "Next" to move on to the next screen.

7. Type in your Yahoo User ID and password in the designated boxes. Check the "Remember Password" box if you want Outlook to remember the password. Do not check the "Log on Using SPA" box. Click "Next" to move on to the next screen.

8. Click "Finish" to finalize your settings. This will take you back to the "Internet Accounts" window.

9. Highlight the account you just set up and click "Properties" on the right side of the window. In order to use Yahoo with Outlook, you must authenticate the account.

10. Click the "Servers" tab and check the box at the bottom that says "My server requires authentication."

11. Click the "Advanced" tab and check the box that says "This server requires a secure connection" under "Outgoing" mail. Type "465" in the empty box beside "Outgoing" mail.

12. Check the box that says "This server requires a secure connection" under "Incoming" mail. Type "995" in the empty box beside "Incoming" mail.

13. Click "OK" to save your settings.
