Unlock Nokia 6230 Software

Unlocking a Nokia phone will enable it to access any GSM service.

The Nokia 6230 is a GSM mobile phone, meaning that you can use it with multiple GSM operators. Unlike CDMA phones, which can only be used with a single operator or carrier, GSM phones support all GSM operators and you can switch it from one network to another by simply replacing the SIM card. Some GSM operators, however, lock the phone's software -- known as the firmware -- which restricts the phone from accepting other networks. For example, if you purchased the Nokia 6230 from operator A, it may not work with operator B if the phone has been locked. Once you unlock the firmware, you can use a Nokia 6230 phone on any GSM network worldwide.

Instructions

1. Look at the label underneath the battery, or type "*#06#" from your phone to find your phone's IMEI number. This is a unique 15-digit code that is assigned to your particular device and used to identify the phone if it's lost or stolen.

2. Visit an unlocking site, such as Mr. Unlock, Unlocking, or Foneszone, and type in the IMEI number and click the home network -- the only network the phone supports. Once you specify the IMEI number and the network, pay for the code, and the site provides you with a code number for your phone via email or phone. When you receive the code, you can use it to unlock your phone.

3. Turn off the phone. Remove the battery cover from the back of the device and raise the battery from its bay. Pull the SIM card out of its metal bracket. Replace the battery and power up the phone.

4. Wait for the firmware to load. You see an error message stating that no SIM is detected, or that the network is restricted. The message may vary depending on region and home network. Press "OK." The phone's desktop screen is ready for input.

5. Type the code using the numeric keypad. The full code is "#pw+INSERTCODE+1#." Replace the "INSERTCODE" portion with the actual code you received. If the code you received is "1234567890," you would type "#pw+1234567890+1#."

6. Press "OK." A confirmation screen states that the phone has been unlocked. Switch off the phone and remove the battery in order to access the SIM slot. Lower the SIM card next to the slot, and push it inward. When the card is all the way in, replace the battery and the casing.

7. Power up the phone and wait for the firmware to load. The phone accepts the SIM and is able to access the carrier's network. You can now make and receive phone calls from the unlocked Nokia 6230 mobile phone.
