Use Google Voice To Call From A Pc

Use your computer to make Google Voice calls.


When you sign up for Google's telecommunications service, Google Voice, you get a unique phone number that you can connect to your landline or cell phone to send and receive calls and text messages. Besides using Google Voice to make call from a phone, you can use it to make calls on your PC from the Google Voice website or from within Gmail. Whether you make Google Voice calls by phone, from the Google Voice website or from Gmail, all calls from the United States and Canada are free as of May 2011.


Instructions


From the Google Voice Website


1. Go to Voice.Google.com to log into your Google Voice account.


2. Click the green "Call" button at the top left-side of the screen.


3. Type the phone number you want to call in the "Number to Call" box.


4. Select one of the phones you have on file with Google Voice from the "Phone to Call With" drop-down menu, and then press the "Connect" button.


5. Wait for Google Voice to call you at the number you selected and connect you to the number you chose to call.


From Within Gmail


6. Go to Mail.Google.com and log into your Gmail account.


7. Click the "Call Phone" link under the "Chat" section and wait for the call box to launch.


8. Click the "Download the Voice Plugin" link in the call box.


9. Click the "Install Voice and Video Chat" button on the screen that opens.


10. Wait for the Google Voice installer to install, and then click the "Restart Browser Now" button.


11. Enter the number you want to call inside the "Search or Dial" box and press the blue "Call" button.


12. Wait for Google Voice to call the number from your PC.


13. Use your microphone and speakers or a headset with a microphone to communicate with the person you called.


14. Click the red "End" button to end your phone call.
