Set Up A Data Account On A Sony Ericsson

In cellular phone terms, a "data account" is a category of mobile service which allows you to use email and the Internet using your wireless handset. A data account, which is also known as a data plan, can be convenient, as it doesn't require the presence of an auxiliary Internet connection for you to gain access. If you use any of the many cell phones Sony Ericsson has on the market and don't yet have a data plan, setting one up is easier than you might think.

Instructions

1. Check your Sony Ericsson user's manual to ensure your phone is capable of accessing the Internet. Look for terms like "Internet" and "email" in the manual's index or look for the "Technical Specifications" section in the table of contents. If your phone isn't technologically equipped to access the Internet -- for example, it lacks a mobile browser or the memory to process web page downloads -- you won't be able to get online, whether you have a data plan or not.

2. Call your mobile carrier's customer service department and request to be put onto a data plan. Inform the representative of the model number of your Sony Ericsson handset. Depending on your service provider, you may need to wait until the end of your current billing cycle for the plan to take effect. Confirm with the representative the date you can plan to have data access.

3. Access email and the Internet using your Internet-ready Sony Ericsson device whenever your data plan becomes effective. Keep in mind that failure to pay your bill or voluntary cancellation of your service will likely result in resumed inability to access the Internet using your Sony Ericsson phone.
