Reinstall The Sound On My Computer

Sound that has suddenly gone missing on a computer can be frustrating. Generally, the sound disappears either because of corrupted sound drivers or because another application has damaged or deleted the drivers from your computer. When the sounds drivers disappear from your computer, sound devices are unable to communicate with the computer motherboard. With some guidelines, reinstall sound drivers and restore missing sound back to your computer.


Instructions


1. Verify the missing sound drivers before reinstalling them on your computer. To do so, click the Windows "Start" button and click "Control Panel."


2. Double-click the "System" icon and click the "Hardware" tab." Click the "Device Manager" to launch the "Device Manager" console.


3. Scroll down the console to "Sound, Video and Game Controllers." Click the "+" button to expand the audio options. If you see a driver with a question or exclamation mark, it means the sound drivers are missing. The drivers can be downloaded and installed from your computer manufacturer's website.


4. Close the Device Manager and locate your computer model and serial number. Depending on your computer, the numbers are located on the back or front. Write down the numbers once you locate them.


5. Go to your computer manufacturer's website and locate the "Support" section. Locate the "Downloads" or "Software and Drivers Downloads" section. Input your computer model and serial number to locate downloads for your computer.


6. Locate the missing sound drivers from the downloads section and click "Download." Click "Run" to install them on your computer. Restart your computer when the installation is complete.


7. Go back to the Device Manager and verify that the question or exclamation marks have been removed. Go back to the Control Panel again and click "Sound and Audio Devices." Click the "Volume" tab if you are not automatically directed there. Drag the volume slider back and forth under "Device Volume."


8. Place a check on the "Place volume icon on the taskbar" check-box and click "OK."
