Unlist My Telephone Number

You can add your phone number to a national list that prevents telemarketing phone calls.

Whether you have a landline or a mobile phone, you may receive unwanted calls from telemarketers or others. U.S. lawmakers recognized this problem and implemented a national "Do Not Call" registry. It is illegal for telemarketers to call phone numbers on the registry. Besides adding your number to this registry, remove your number from local and online phone directories to guard your privacy.

Instructions

1. Add your phone number to the national "Do Not Call" registry. This list permanently removes your phone number from Telemarketer calling lists.

2. Call your service provider and request that you number be removed from local phone directories, such as the White Pages or the Yellow Pages. Dial "611" to reach your current mobile phone provider. In addition to the directory removal, ask that your number also be removed from the "Directory Information Line."

3. Remove your phone number from online phone directories. Enter your name, city, state and phone number to remove it from the Google Phonebook service. Then, click on the phone directories listed on the same page. Locate the option to "unlist," "delist" or "remove" your number from those directories. Complete the relevant forms for each of those directories to remove your number.
