Connect A Netbook To A Router

Netbook computers are small form factor laptops, with a screen size of approximately 8 to 11 inches, that are used for Internet surfing, email and other basic computer tasks. Netbook computers come with wireless cards built into the motherboard, so you can connect the netbook to a wireless router to use your home network. Although many different netbooks exist, the wireless connection is always handled by the operating system.

Instructions

1. Bring your netbook within range of your wireless router. Check the netbook to confirm the wireless networking feature is turned on. For many netbooks, you may have a Wi-Fi slider or button that displays different colors when it's off or on. For example, the HP netbook line has a slider on the front right of the case that displays blue when the Wi-Fi feature is turned on,and orange when it is not.

2. Click the network icon, located in the lower right-hand corner on your system tray.

3. Select your wireless network from the list of available wireless networks. Click "Connect."

4. Enter your password for the network if you have wireless security in place on your wireless router. Click "OK" to confirm the password.
