Design A Voip

A VoIP phone system can save you money.

VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is the transmission of voice signals over the Internet. VoIP technology converts regular phone signals (analog) to data (digital) that can be sent through broadband Internet. VoIP can be used to make regular phone calls just like any other landline telephone. But, unlike regular landline calls, VoIP calls are cheap -- long distance calls are toll-free and international call rates are discounted. A VoIP phone system can save you some cash and knowing design it can increase your technical know-how.

Instructions

1. Connect an analog telephone adapter or ATA to your Internet-enabled network router or Internet modem by plugging one end of the Ethernet cable (supplied with the adapter) to the RJ-45 port at the back of your adapter, and plugging its other end to a similar port behind the network router or computer modem.

2. Mount a telephone jack (RJ-14) beside the adapter and another jack on the wall nearest to where you want to sit a VoIP-enabled landline phone. Unscrew the cover of both jacks, and loosen the red and green terminal screws inside, using a screwdriver.

3. Run telephone cable from one jack to the other, but allow an extra six inches on both ends for slack. Fasten the cable using cable staples every foot along the way. Do not puncture or damage the cable; otherwise, you must replace the whole cable.

4. Cut away the cable jacket at its tip on both ends by three inches using diagonal pliers. Strip off 1/2 inch of insulation from the tip of the exposed red and green wires on both ends of the cable, using a wire stripper. Hook the red and green wires clockwise around their matching red and green terminal screws on both jacks, and tighten the screws to secure the connections. Replace the jack cover.

5. Plug a telephone patch cord (RJ-11) into the back of your analog telephone adapter and plug the other end into the wall jack beside it. Plug a landline telephone into the jack on the other end of the line, lift the handset to listen for a dial tone, and call someone to ensure that the line is working.
