Get Bluetooth Wireless On Your Computer

Bluetooth Wireless is an easy-to-use wireless technology that connects two or more devices via high-frequency radio signals. Portable devices, such as cell phones, PDAs and laptop computers usually come equipped with Bluetooth capability. Older laptops and many desktop computers, however, do not.

Instructions

Enabling Bluetooth

1. Determine which type of computer you have. If you have a newer laptop, chances are it has Bluetooth Wireless capability already. Check with your computer manual to enable it--it only takes a few seconds to access it via "Control Panel" (Windows) or via the icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen (Mac). If you have an older laptop without Bluetooth, follow the instructions in steps 2 and 3.

2. If you have an older desktop computer, it may or may not have Bluetooth Wireless installed. If you are certain it doesn't, obtain an inexpensive USB Bluetooth adapter, commonly called a "Bluetooth dongle." These thumb-sized devices plug into any USB port and are a cinch to install and configure.

3. Test your connection. Once your Bluetooth adapter is installed and configured, test it by pairing it with a Bluetooth device, like your cell phone. Just enable Bluetooth on the device and your computer's Bluetooth adapter should detect it right away. Follow the onscreen instructions to pair the two devices. Because of the large number of Bluetooth devices available, every device may be required to be configured differently. Refer to their respective instructions when in doubt.
