Fix A Wet Nokia 6102i Cell Phone

The Nokia 6102i was a popular release in 2006, and is still in use by many AT&T customers. Featuring Bluetooth, a camera and a built-in FM radio, this phone had many additions to the basic cell-phone technology.

For many users, getting this phone wet means losing more than just a phone, but a music player and a camera as well. Fortunately, you can save a wet phone if you know what to do and act quickly.

Instructions

1. Remove the cell phone from the water immediately. The longer the phone stays in the water, the better the chances are of it being unsalvageable.

2. Remove the battery as soon as you have the phone out of the water.

3. Remove the SIM card if there is one. (Typically, in the U.S., T-Mobile and AT&T phones have SIM cards.) Even if the phone can't be salvaged, the data stored on the SIM card may be recovered.

4. Shake the phone (holding on to it carefully) to remove as much water as possible.

5. Use paper towels to dry out as much of the remaining water as possible.

6. Let the phone sit someplace warm and dry. If desired, you can put it on top of a source of low heat, such as a television set. Alternately, you can set it in a bowl of dry rice, which absorbs water. Give it at least 3 days to dry thoroughly.

7. Replace the SIM card and battery and turn on the phone. If the phone does not turn on, it is probably unsalvageable. You can bring it in to a dealer to see if data can be recovered from the SIM card.
