I Am Unable To Hear Sounds On My Nokia N95

Nokia N95 with factory sounds settings turned on.

The Nokia N95 has undergone many versions since its inception in 2007. The latest version sports a full 8GB of storage space and takes advantage of the 3G cellular network bands. If you cannot hear sounds on your N95 mobile phone, there's a few reasons why it's not making a noise.

Volume Control

The volume control on the side of the phone controls the in-ear sound on calls as well as ringing volume when you have an incoming call. Pressing the volume up button increases the volume. You should see an on-screen indicator showing that the sound volume has increased. As well, you should notice a difference in the volume on your call or the next time it rings.

Headset

The Nokia N95 has a small audio jack where you can plug in a headset to listen to music or make phone calls on. One of two situations could occur. You could experience no sound while the headset is plugged in. If you're trying to listen to music, but hear no sound, then check the volume control. If that doesn't work, then the headset may have a short circuit or exterior damage that's preventing it from working properly. Another situation is you can't hear the phone ringing because you left the headset plugged in and don't have the headphones in your ears. Check to see if its still connected, then remove the headset from the phone's audio jack.

Network

Sound may cut in and out while on a phone call. This is usually caused by a weak network signal or when you go too far out of range from the network. It's possible dead network spots are in your area that may spontaneously pop up. These are usually resolved on their own or fixed by the cellular provider once it receives enough complaints. Check to make sure you have a strong signal, of at least three bars, before placing or picking up the call.

Call Divert

One feature in particular on the Nokia N95 phone sends an incoming call to your voicemail. The Call Divert feature allows you to send specific phone numbers to voicemail. Because a blocked phone number is automatically diverted, you won't hear the phone ringing. It's possible you haven't heard a sound from the phone, because no one has called or only blocked numbers have tried to contact you. You should check the "Call Divert" setting to see if the feature is activated and which numbers are being routed to your voicemail.
