The Nokia 5300 is a multimedia phone. It lets you view photos, watch videos and listen to music. To use this phone on another network, you need to unlock it. Unlocking involves obtaining a code. Many downloadable programs let you unlock your Nokia with just your data cable -- though for the Nokia 5300 most people find it easier just to get a free unlock code from their service provider.
Instructions
1. Enter *#06# in your phone's keypad. Press "OK" after complete. Write down the 15- or 17-digit IMEI number.
2. Download unlocking software. Examples include Unlock Me, Nokia Free and Top 4 Download (see Resources). Save the file to your desktop.
3. Double click the downloaded file. Follow the installation instructions and save the software to your computer's hard drive. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
4. Attach the data cable to your Nokia phone. Connect the other end to your computer's USB port. Double click the unlocking software's icon.
5. Enter the IMEI number. Wait for the software to detect your phone's specifications. Click the "Unlock" button to obtain an unlock code.
6. Enter the unlock code in your phone. Press the "OK" button. Wait for notification that you have unlocked it.
