Replace The Housing On A Nokia 6500 Slide Phone

Cellular phone housing

The Nokia Slide is a cell phone released in 2007 with standard features such as a built-in camera and text messaging. One feature that sets it apart from many other cellular phones is its sliding LCD screen. That means that to make a call on your Nokia 6500, you slide the screen halfway up the housing of the device to reveal the keypad. It's a fun and convenient design but can make things difficult if you want to customize your phone by changing the outer housing. Luckily there is a way to disassemble the phone to the point that you can remove the housing and replace it.

Instructions

1. Turn off your Nokia Slide and remove the battery cover by pressing the "unlock" button at the very top of the phone.

2. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws located at each of the four corners of the battery compartment.

3. Slide the LCD screen up to the open position and insert your plastic pry tool in the seam between the sliding LCD and the back housing of the device. A plastic pry tool should come included with your replacement housing. If one did not, you can purchase it from any electronics store.

4. Work your way around the sides of the sliding LCD until all of the locking latches pop up. Then insert the pry tool in the seam at the bottom of the phone between the keypad and housing and pop up the single latch.

5. Lift the keypad slightly up with your pry tool and release the single connector located just under the keypad. The front sliding LCD can now be removed from the back housing. Gently pull the two halves apart.

6. Turn the LCD face-down and remove the four screws on each corner of the metal slider that's connected to the housing. Lift the slider out of the housing to expose the plastic LCD support panel.

7. Unplug the orange LCD ribbon from the housing and remove the support panel by lifting it up.

8. Remove the LCD screen by gently lifting it up, and you will be left with only the housing. Discard it and place the LCD and panels in the new housing (available from your Nokia retailer or online). Reassemble the phone in the reverse order in which you took it apart.
