Troubleshoot A Nokia N97

If you're unable to hear your phone, push the "Volume" button up.

The Nokia N97 digital touch screen cell phone is a multifunctional iPhone look-alike. When you begin to use your Nokia, you may experience some problems or setbacks with some of the basic functions of the phone, such as network scanning, nonresponsive applications, sending messages to saved contacts and a noncalibrated screen. Navigating a few steps and performing your own basic maintenance will have your N97 operating like new in little time.

Instructions

1. Close an application that won't respond by first pushing the "Options" icon on the screen with your finger on the display's main menu. Select "Show Open Apps," and then tap the problematic application with your finger. Hold down the "Menu" key (the central lone button at the bottom of the face of the phone) to force open the application. Push "Options" and "Exit." Your program will close.

2. Move your phone to a new location if your phone is unable to establish a global positioning system connection. Allow a few seconds or minutes to pass for the phone's GPS system to find a signal. Move your phone outdoors if you are indoors. If you're in a vehicle and in a heavily wooded area (or surrounded by many buildings) drive your car to an open space.

3. Correct an error with a contact when sending a message by first pushing "Menu" on the display with your finger. Your contact is without a phone number or email address, and a message can't be sent to a contact without information. From the "Menu" options, select "Contacts" with your finger. Select the contact to which you want to send the message, and add an email address or phone number.

4. Recalibrate the screen if your display isn't coordinating correctly with the touches from your finger. Push "Menu," "Settings," "Phone," "Touch Input," and then "Touch Screen Calibration." Follow the on-screen prompts provided by the calibration setup screen to recalibrate your screen.

5. Adjust your wireless LAN settings on your Nokia if you'd like to conserve battery life and disable a connection. Scan less often and save battery power by pushing "Menu," "Settings and Connectivity," and "WLAN." Specify how often you would like for your phone to scan for new networks. Turn the scanning off completely by selecting "Show WLAN Availability" and then specifying "Never." Save your settings by pushing "Back." You will see no WLAN icon on the screen if scanning is disabled.

6. Allow your screen to properly warm up if you turn on your phone and see bright dots or a discolored display. This is normal for the N97 screen. Upon turning on the device, the screen might show pixels that remain on or off for a moment.
