Get Opera Mini To Work On A Palm Zire

If you do not like the pre-installed Web browser on the Palm Zire then you can install a third party browser such as Opera Mini. Using Opera Mini is useful if you want more functionality or a different layout while you browse, than the inbuilt Palm Zire browser. If you want to get the Opera Mini browser to work with the Palm Zire then you need to install it correctly and make sure that your device is supported. Opera Mini requires that IBM JVM (a Java language applet) be installed on your Palm Zire, which might stop Opera Mini from working. Once you have installed the software correctly the program should work.

Instructions

1. Check the Palm Zire Opera Mini & Mobile website (see Resources) to see if your Palm Zire is supported. As of September 2010, the Palm Zire 71 and 72 were both supported--other Palm Zire devices were not.

2. Click "System," then "Preferences," then "Other." Select "IBM Java VM," then wait for IBM Java to install onto your system.

3. Go to the Palm Zire Opera Mini page and download Opera Mini 3 Basic (see Resources).

4. Connect your Palm Zire to your computer, then transfer the downloaded Opera browser to your device. Disconnect your Palm Zire from the computer.

5. Open the Opera Mini installer on your device and setup will begin.
