Get The Imei Number From Your Cell Phone

All cell phones have an IMEI number.

International Mobile Equipment Identity, or IMEI, is a number unique to each cell phone. This number can be locked out by the GSM network in case your phone is lost or stolen. Some prepaid cell phone companies also require that you know this number in order to purchase minutes for your cell phone. Here is the way to get it back if you lose it.

Instructions

1. Look at the box your cell phone came in. If you have the original packaging, the IMEI number is usually located next to the serial number.

2. Take the cover off of the battery compartment of your phone. Remove the battery and look inside the compartment. Many models have this number written right there next to the SIM card slot.

3. Type in *#06# on the display screen. The phone will return with the IMEI number on many older cell phone models.

4. Look up your IMEI number in your phone's information. As of the date of this publication, many smartphones list the IMEI number with other phone information under the "Settings" screen. Depending on the type of smartphone you have, you'll want to tap "Menu," "Settings" and something to the effect of "About Phone," "Phone Information" or "About."
