1. Download unlocking software that is compatible with your phone type from a trusted online website. You may be able to find a reliable unlocking software program at a website like Download.cnet.com. Some software programs are free while others require payment.
2. Purchase an unlocking cable (sometimes called a dual, serial, or FTDI cable) that is compatible with your cell phone's make and model. You can find one at a computer or cell phone store, or on an online website like Ebay.com.
3. Load the software, log in if required, and enter your phone information when prompted. You must have a solid Internet connection with most services.
4. Insert the cable into the USB or serial port (or both if required by the software) and then into the phone when prompted. Place the original SIM card that come with the phone in its slot if you have it (may not be required) and make sure the phone is turned on. Some software programs will tell you to turn the phone off---you have to follow the specific instructions to the letter for this to work.
