Use A Cable To Unlock Phones

You can use a cable to unlock your phone.


When you unlock a cell phone, you can use your SIM card with it even if the phone is not specifically designed for use with your service. There are a number of ways that you can do this. You can unlock with codes, by calling your cell phone company, or by using a cable. If you choose the latter option, you must have the proper equipment and information about the process. Keep in mind that this method is only suggested if you are very savvy about cell phones and navigate through a variety of potential issues.


Instructions


1. Download unlocking software that is compatible with your phone type from a trusted online website. When you find an online provider, check the website's reputation and safety using an anti-virus and anti-spyware program, like McAfee. You may be able to find a reliable unlocking software program at a website like Download.cnet.com. Some software programs are free while others require payment.


2. Purchase an unlocking cable (sometimes called a dual, serial, or FTDI cable) that is compatible with your cell phone's make and model. You can find one at a computer or cell phone store, or on an online website like Ebay.com.


3. Load the software, log in if required, and enter your phone information when prompted. You must have a solid Internet connection with most services.


4. Insert the cable into the USB or serial port (or both if required by the software) and then into the phone when prompted. Place the original SIM card that come with the phone in its slot if you have it (may not be required) and make sure the phone is turned on. Some software programs will tell you to turn the phone off---you have to follow the specific instructions to the letter for this to work.


5. Press "Scan" or the similar option so that the software detects your phone. Then choose the option to "Unlock" the phone. Allow the software time to unlock the device. Follow the instructions for safely disconnect the phone from the computer and software.
