Bluetooth Pairing Problems

Pair a Bluetooth headset with a mobile phone for hands-free communication.

The use of Bluetooth enables you to securely transfer files and other data between two devices. Before using Bluetooth, you must pair, or program, the devices. Occasionally, you may experience problems with pairing.

Incorrect Passcode

Each Bluetooth-enabled device is assigned a four-digit number, or passcode, that must be used to pair with another device. If the passcode is entered incorrectly, pairing fails. Double-check the passcode and re-enter the numbers if you are unable to pair with another device. In most cases, the passcode can be "0000" or "1234."

Charging

Both Bluetooth-enabled devices must be fully charged before attempting to pair. A low battery can prevent a device from establishing the secure connection needed for pairing. Bluetooth headsets need to charge for at least two hours before pairing.

Compatibility

All Bluetooth devices must pass a qualification test conducted by an independent company before being considered in compliance with industry specifications. Most devices that are compliant are compatible with other compliant devices. Despite two devices meeting industry standards, there is a slight chance that they are not compatible. Refer to your user's manual to determine if the devices are compatible.
