Get your iPhone working by charging it and then connecting it to your computer.
If you've just taken delivery of a shiny, new Apple iPhone, no doubt you'll want to get it set up and start using it right away. Starting an iPhone for the first time is not difficult and doesn't require much technical know-how. You will need to charge the battery, insert the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card supplied by your mobile carrier and connect the iPhone to your desktop or laptop computer.
Instructions
1. Unwrap the iPhone packaging and carefully remove the phone from the box.
2. Plug the power adapter included with the original packaging into the docking port at the bottom of the iPhone. Plug the other end of the adapter cable into an AC power outlet.
3. Switch on the iPhone by holding down the "On/Off" button, located on the top of the phone.
4. Wait for the iPhone to charge. The device will display a progress bar on the home screen during charging. Unplug the iPhone from the power adapter when the charge shows "100%."
5. Pop open the SIM card tray on the side of the iPhone by inserting a straightened paper clip or short wire into the small hole near the tray. Place the SIM card in the tray and push the tray flush into the phone. Wait for the SIM card to register with the mobile carrier. This occurs automatically and requires only a few minutes.
6. Open a Web browser on your computer and navigate to the Itunes.com/download Web page. Click the "Download Now" link. Select "Run" from the dialog box to download and install iTunes to your computer.
7. Plug the included USB or Firewire cable into the iPhone and then connect the other end of the cable to the appropriate port on your computer.
8. Launch iTunes from the computer's task bar. Wait for the iPhone icon to appear under "Devices" in the menu on the left side of the application window.
9. Click on the "iPhone" icon and select "Set Up As New" from the dialog box that appears. Wait for iTunes to configure the device to sync with iTunes. The program displays a progress bar during this procedure.
10. Wait for "Ok to Disconnect" to appear in the iTunes status window. Unplug the data cable from the iPhone and the computer. You can now sync the iPhone with iTunes and transfer music, video, photos, calendars and contact information between your mobile phone and the computer.
