When you install Nero software, it automatically comes with Nero Scout, an organizational application for movie files. The software automatically installs the NMIndexStoreSvr.exe application that runs in the background of Windows at all times.

Identification

Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" on your keyboard to load the Windows Task Manager. Click on the "Processes" tab, and then click the "Name" tab. Scroll down to find the NMIndexStoreSvr.exe process.

Function

NMIndexStoreSvr.exe organizes all movie and other media-based files on your computer. It automatically organizes them so you can easily access them and load them in Nero Scout or any other Nero application.

Benefits

The use of NMIndexStoreSvr.exe will save you a lot of time within the Nero software. If you have hundreds of music and video files, they can be accessed and organized in alphabetical order with small thumbnail previews.

Considerations

The application can use up a lot of computer memory. Use the "Processes" menu to see what percentage of your CPU is used for the software. Right-click and click "End Process" to instantly free memory on your computer.

Prevention/Solution

Open the "Preferences" menu in Nero Scout. Uncheck the boxes that enable the software to run in the background. The box states "Integrate Nero Scout into Windows Explorer." Press "OK," restart the computer and the application will not run anymore.
