Local Number Portability
The Federal Trade Commission requires that phone carriers allow the same phone number to be freely transferred between services in the top 100 cities.
Transferring
To transfer an old cell phone number, contact TracFone and ask them to process the task. It will disconnect your old service during the transfer.
Information
You need to provide your name, address, contact phone number and Social Security Number as identification. You must also provide billing information from your old service provider.
Features
Features from your old carrier, such as data services, may not transfer. Instead, your cell number now uses existing TracFone features.
Fees
As of January 2010, TracFone charges no fees for transferring numbers. However, your old carrier may assess costs for terminating your old contact.
