Stop Data Transfer

You can stop a data transfer in Microsoft Windows by using the point-and-click functionality in the graphical user interface (GUI). When you transfer files and/or directories from one non-volatile storage device to another --- such as a hard disk drive or a USB flash drive --- this action will provide you with a dialog box that shows you the progress of the data transfer, including the amount of time remaining and how much data has been transferred, typically in kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes.

Instructions

1. Click "Cancel" if you're copying files. This button is in the bottom right of the "copying" data transfer dialog box. See Resources for an image.

2. Click "Cancel" if you're moving files. This button is in the bottom right of the "moving" data transfer dialog box. See Resources for an image.

3. Repeat Step 1 and/or Step 2 when you want to cancel a data transfer, in the form of copying or moving files from one data storage device to another.
