Why Does My Hp Printer Use So Much Ink

Hewlett-Packard (HP) manufactures laptops, desktop computers and many similar items, including printers and ink. There is no evidence stating that HP printers use significantly more ink than other printers, but several aspects of printing are within your control that can affect how much ink your printer uses.

Choosing Ink

While many alternative and cheaper-priced inks are available, ConsumerSearch.com recommends using ink from your printer manufacturer. HP produces a variety of inks meant for their own printers. You may, however, be able to save some money by using cheaper ink for less important documents or documents with only text.

Printing as Draft

One of the easiest ways to save your HP printer ink is to not print very high-quality documents unless absolutely necessary. On Windows, after you select "Print," click on "Properties" in the dialogue box that appears. Under the Print Setup tab, click on "Draft." This will print your document more quickly and with less ink. If you are only printing a black-and-white text page, you most likely will not notice a difference.

Tip

Because color ink is normally much more expensive than black ink, print in black and white as often as possible. You can do this by checking off "Print in Black and White" under the Print Setup tab.
