Activate Phone Cards

Phone cards are useful when using payphones.

Phone cards are a useful way to keep in touch with people when traveling overseas. While cell phones eliminate the need for phone cards most of the time domestically, many cell phones either don't work out of the country or charge you significantly higher rates. Phone cards help you regulate how much money you're spending on phone service, much like a prepaid plan. Activating a phone card usually can be done quickly.

Instructions

1. Purchase the phone card at the store. Most cards cannot be activated until after they have been run through a register.

2. Dial the access number on the front or back of the card. This is the number for the company that is benefiting from your card payment.

3. Enter the PIN number off your card using the numerical pad on the phone. This identifies your specific account so the company can keep track of how much time is left on your card.

4. Dial the number you want to reach. Your card should now be activated.
