Recycler virus removal tools will find and remove all instances of the worm.
A recycler virus uses the Autorun features in Windows to spread itself throughout the computer system and even removable drives like USB (universal serial bus), memory sticks and DVDs. It will make copies of the autorun.inf file throughout these devices and then make copies of itself in hidden folders on these devices. It will then download malware (malicious spyware), which copies your information and provides it to third parties. Most of the programs that clean up this virus are free.
Remove Restrictions Tool
Oftentimes, your installed anti-virus software program can detect the auto recycler virus, but it cannot remove it. In fact, you cannot remove it even if you reformat the infected drive. Remove Restrictions Tool allows you to remove the restrictions from the recycler folder. You must be logged in as an administrator to use this tool. But, once you do run it, you will receive a list of all the autorun and recycler files. You just need to select them all, and then click the "Show hidden files" icon. Once they are visible, you will be able to delete all the hidden worm files.
Win32/Nyxem.D Removal Tool
This tool is compatible with Windows 98, XP, 2000, Server 2003, NT 3.x and NT 4.x. This program runs as CleanNyxem.exe, and it allows you to find all instances of the Win32/Nyxem.D worm. It will then remove the worm from your computer. The Win32/Nyxem.D Removal Tool can also find variations of the original virus and remove those as well. This is a freeware program, which means that you can download and use the program without having to pay a licensing fee.
Autorun Eater
The Autorun Eater searches your hard drive and will delete any doubtful autorun.inf files. It will create backups of the files that were deleted in case they were not virus files. It also allows you to fix any Windows registry entries or startup entries. The Autorun Eater will create a log of all autorun.inf files, and it will let you know if it has detected a possible virus. You can also set the priority of the scan, meaning that you can run a normal or high priority (possible infection) scan. This is a freeware program.
Flash Disinfector
If your USB (universal serial bus) or flash drive has been infected, you can run Flash Disinfector to remove the worm from removable drives. To use the Flash Disinfector, download it and install it on your computer. Once it is fully installed, you can add your flash drive, and the program will remove all the auto recycler files from your removable drive.
