Troubleshooting A Motorola Cell Phone

Troubleshooting a Motorola Cell Phone

Motorola Doens't Turn On

Plug the phone into its charger and a standard 110-V outlet; allow to charge for several hours. If the phone still doesn't turn on, remove the battery. Clean any dust off these parts. Allow the battery to dry for several hours if it happened to get wet. Reassemble the phone and try charging the phone with another person's charger for this type of phone for several hours.

Motorola Is Locked

A phone can be locked with a PIN that you gave the phone when you initially bought it or by the service provider. The phone can become locked by human error or cell-phone malfunctions. In order to unlock your phone you need the PIN. First try typing in the last four digits of your cell phone number. If that doesn't work, try standard phone presets like 1111 and 9999. If that doesn't work, call your service provider and give them your account info and ask for the unlocking PIN. You may also pay for an unlock PIN for your phone via wirelessunlocking.com (see "Additional Resources," below).

Bad Reception

If you can't hear the person on the phone, first turn up the voice volume on the side of the Motorola. If your phone isn't getting service, try moving to a higher or outdoor location. Make sure your antennae is pulled up. You can purchase cell phone service and signal boost antennas and stickers on the Internet (a link to companies that sell these stickers is provided in "Additional Resources," below). Signal boost stickers work with the internal antenna to strengthen reception.

Can't Receive or Send Calls

Dial 611 on your Motorola to make sure you're in the given network area. Also, try calling your service provider to make sure there aren't problems with the network. Make sure your cell phone's voice mail isn't set to automatic pickup. This can be determined in the voice-mail settings menu when you press and hold "1" on your phone.
