Get Gprs Settings

A GSM phone can make and receive calls using just its SIM card, but to connect to the data network, it needs GPRS settings. The SIM card distinguishes a GSM phone from a CDMA phone, the other kind of cellphone. It stores the information needed for voice calls. GPRS settings tell the phone interact with the carrier's data network. They must be entered into the phone. Each GSM carrier has unique settings. If you bought a branded phone from your carrier, they are already in place. If you purchased a phone from another source, you'll need to find the settings and set them yourself.

Instructions

1. Check your carrier's web site. Some carriers have their settings in the support section. Try searching for "GPRS" or "WAP".

2. Contact the carrier's technical support. Call your carrier from another phone, if possible. The representative may need to walk you through the process over the phone. On most phones, you can't access the correct menus while talking on the phone. You can find the carrier's toll free number on your bill, or on their web site. The technical support representative will give you the settings, even if they can't give you specific steps for your particular handset. You can also contact one of your carrier's local stores store.

3. Search for sites that list GPRS settings for many carriers online.
