Use unlocking codes to unlock a Toshiba cell phone.
Having your Toshiba phone locked to a network can restrict your calling plan options. While some service providers offer cheaper plans than others, you may not be able to use the cheaper plans because you are locked to a specific service provider. To be able to use the cheaper service providers with your current Toshiba phone, you need to unlock the device using an unlocking code. This is a legal process and there are two ways of obtaining an unlocking code for your device.
Instructions
1. Turn off your Toshiba cell phone. Remove the battery from the back of the phone and locate the phone's identification code, also called the IMEI number. It is a long sequence of letters and numbers. Write the code down.
2. Obtain an unlocking code. You can either do this by contacting your current service provider and inquire about one or obtain one from an online unlocking service (see Resources). While you will have to pay a small fee for an unlocking code online, some people would rather pay $2.99 or $4.99 instead of contacting their service providers.
3. Provide your mobile and personal information when prompted to by the website or service provider. Mention the specific model and type of Toshiba mobile phone. For example, specify whether your Toshiba is a T-01A, Sportio or TG01 Smart Phone. Also include the IMEI number gathered in Step 1 and your email address.
4. Pay the fee if applicable. If you choose to use an online service, a small fee may apply. It is free if you ask your service provider.
5. Collect the unlocking code for your device. The code is most commonly emailed to your email account to avoid any mistakes or misspellings of the code.
6. Remove the SIM card from your phone and re-insert the battery. Turn on your Toshiba phone and wait until it loads. An error screen will appear due to the lack of a SIM card.
7. Enter your unlocking code. Check to ensure it is entered correctly before pressing the "Enter" button. You can now use your Toshiba phone with the service provider of your choice.
