Enable The Maximum Data Transfer Speed Possible

Enable the Maximum Data Transfer Speed Possible

When copying content from a computer over to an external hard drive or other portable device, the data transfer speed can vary depending on the device you are using and the kind of computer you have. If you are copying over large files, the larger data transfer speeds are extremely important because it can save you literally hours when waiting for the complete file to copy over.

Instructions

1. Close out other running programs. The programs can suck RAM needed by the file transfer, slowing it down.

2. Plug the FireWire 800 cable into the FireWire port on your external hard drive. If no such port is available (see "Tips" for specifications), connect your USB cable into the external hard drive.

3. Plug the other end of the FireWire cable into the FireWire port on the computer (if you are using FireWire). Connect the other end of the USB cable into one of the available USB ports on the computer (if you are using a USB cable).

4. Copy one file at a time to the external device. Copying multiple files at the same time is going to slow down the transfer speed because all the files are competing for the transfer speed.
