Reset A 2wire Router

Reset a 2Wire Router

Whether you are trying to set up a network for your office, home or elsewhere, you will need to have your 2Wire brand router configured to do so. There are a number of reasons you may need to reset your router. You may be trying to solve network problems in an existing setup, or there could be a power outage that causes issues with your router. It is important to understand the difference between simply resetting your router and doing what is called a hard reset. A hard reset will erase network configuration settings while a normal reset will simply restart the router, which is usually done to try and solve connectivity issues. If you are merely having connection problems, you will want to start with the normal reset.

Instructions

1. Look at the back of the router and look for a small hole that should be near where the adapter plugs into your router. Inside this small hole should be a button that you will probably not be able to push with your finger.

2. Insert a pen, straightened paperclip or other similar thin but hard object into that hole and press the button inside it for one second. This will restart the router. If you are having connection problems this may fix the problem, so wait a minute or two and then try to connect to the Internet or to another computer in the network.

3. Insert your pen or paperclip again, but this time hold the button in for 30 seconds. Do this only if you intend to reset the router to factory settings, which will result in erasing the network settings in the router. If your connection problems were fixed after Step 2, then ignore this step.
