Unlock A Blackberry 8830

If you purchased your BlackBerry 8830 directly from your wireless provider, odds are it has a lock feature enabled. This lock prevents you from using your 8830 on another carrier's network--disheartening if you love your BlackBerry but are considering switching services. Fortunately, with the use of an unlock code you can disable the lock, allowing your phone to work with any SIM card. Every 8830 has a unique code--you may be able to obtain it for free from your current provider.

Instructions

1. Obtain the unlock code for your device. Your carrier may provide you with the code, especially if you have been a customer for some time. (Rather than saying you need the code so you can change providers, try saying you are unlocking to take the phone overseas.) If you no longer have a carrier or have difficulty getting the code, you can use an unlocking service. Find one online or use a link from the Resources section.

2. Remove your phone's back cover (battery door) and take out the battery to access the SIM card slot. Remove your current SIM card and replace it with a non-recognized SIM. Replace the battery and battery door.

3. Press "Menu" and choose "Manage Connections." Choose "Turn All Connections Off." Press "End" to return to the home screen.

4. Press "Menu" and select "Options." Choose "Advanced Options," then "SIM Card." Simultaneously press and hold the "ALT" key while pressing the following keys in succession: "M," "E," "P," "D." A hidden personalization menu will appear.

5. Press and hold the "ALT" key and simultaneously type "M," "E," "P," "2." "Enter Network MEP Code" will appear on the screen. Type in your unlock code and press the trackball to confirm.

6. Power your phone off and back on to restart it. Open the main menu and choose "Manage Connections." Choose "Turn All Connections On." Your device is now unlocked.
