Make A Test Call With Skype

A test call with Skype will reveal whether your microphone works.

Setting up Skype on your computer for the first time can be confusing. If you have not previously used Skype or a similar program, you may not even know whether your speakers and microphone work correctly. If this is the case, or if you just want to test some new external equipment for your computer, make a test call on Skype. This will help you ensure that your computer and Skype are set up successfully.

Instructions

1. Open Skype and log in with your username and password.

2. Click on the "Contacts" tab on the left part of the Skype screen if it is not already highlighted.

3. Click on the contact named "Echo/Sound Test Service." This contact is automatically added when you install Skype and you will not need to manually add it or search for it.

4. Click on the green "Call" button on the right side of the screen, just below the avatar for "Echo/Sound Test Service."

5. Listen to the recording, which will direct you to record a message after the beep. Say a few words, then wait for another beep. The system will then play back the message you have just recorded to confirm that your computer microphone is working correctly.
