Unlock A Blackberry 8830 World Edition Cell Phone

Use your Blackberry with any SIM card by unlocking it.

Blackberry devices are popular smart phones. The 8830 World Edition is a feature-rich Blackberry that is capable of functioning overseas, making it ideal for travelers who need to stay in touch. If you purchased your 8830 from a wireless provider, it's probably restricted to use on that carrier's network. This frustrating practice is often referred to as locking, and makes it tough for you to take your phone to a new carrier. To free your phone and use it as you wish, you'll need the unlock code specific to your device.

Instructions

1. Obtain your 8830's unique unlock code, either from your service provider or from an unlocking service. Customer service may release the code to you if you tell them you wish to unlock your phone to use overseas. You may have to be persistent and talk to several representatives, as carriers are reluctant to give out these codes. (Doing so means you can take your phone elsewhere, causing the company to lose a subscriber.) If you are unsuccessful or no longer have a service provider, continue to Step 2.

2. Find a phone unlocking service. A quick Internet search for "unlock blackberry 8830" will return plenty of options. Phone unlocking services usually charge a fee for their services and will email you your code in a few days. You'll need to provide them with some basic contact information and your Blackberry's IMEI - which is listed on a sticker beneath the phone's battery. Take care to choose a reputable service with a secure checkout option.

3. Insert any SIM card into your phone. You'll need to take off the battery cover first-- simply press the release button and slide the door off. Remove the battery to reveal the SIM card slot, and slide the card into the slot with the metal contacts facing down. Replace the battery and slide the cover back into place, then wait for your device to power on.

4. Press the Blackberry "Menu" button, then use your trackball to scroll to settings. Select it by pressing in your trackball, then scroll to "Options" and select it. Choose "Advanced Options." Highlight and select "SIM card."

5. Use your Blackberry key pad to type the letters, "MEPD" (not case-sensitive). The letters will not appear on your screen. A new menu will appear.

6. Press the "ALT" button and simultaneously type the letters, "MEPE" (not case-sentitive). Release the "ALT" key when you have typed the letters, and you will be prompted to enter in the network MEP code. This is your phone unlock code. Type the code in using your phone's keypad, and press in the trackball. Your device is now unlocked.
