Fix A Loose Flip On A Cell Phone

A Motorola "flip" cell phone relies on a spring to keep the hinged lid from closing once it has been opened up. A loose spring will interfere with the process and allow the lid to flip close before you want it to. Fix the loose lid of the cell phone so that it stays open by tightening the spring. The procedure is straightforward and requires a few tools commonly found around the house, along with a replacement hinge from a cell phone supply store. The cell phone will have to be partially disassembled in order to fix the loose spring.

Instructions

1. Place the bath towel on a table. Place the cell phone on the towel with the lid open and farthest from you. Remove the screws surrounding the faceplate on the lid of the cell phone with the T6 screwdriver. Pull the faceplate off and place it aside.

2. Remove the exposed screws on the lid with the screwdriver. Pull the metal plate off the lid. Remove the screws at the base of the lid to release the hinge--use the screwdriver.

3. Remove the screws on either side of the hinge where it meets the bottom of the cell phone with the screwdriver. Remove the screw from the back of the hinge at the bottom with the screwdriver. Lift the hinge out of the slot at the top of the cell phone.

4. Place the replacement hinge in the slot in the same position the original occupied. Reattach the screw

5. Place the top part of the hinge in the bottom of the lid in the same position the original occupied. Reattach the screws. Place the faceplate back on. Reattach the screws.
