Unlock A Symbian Phone

Unlocking a Symbian phone is a simple process.

Unlocking a Symbian cell phone is a means of allowing it to be compatible with SIM cards from other networks. This can be a money-saving tool, since it gives you greater freedom to search for cheap SIM deals, and also increases the resale value of your phone. It is a legal activity, yet one that is not offered by any major phone network. However, using a few simple steps, it can be an easy process to unlock a Symbian phone.

Instructions

1. Log on to a phone unlocking website. There is a range to choose from, although well-known sites include "Symbian Toys," "Unlock it now" and "Mobile Unlock" (see Resources). All of these offer unlocking for Symbian phones, although "Symbian Toys" is tailored specifically to Symbians.

2. Dial #06# on your phone to find its IMEI code. This is the serial code that is unique to your phone. If dialing the number is not successful, then the IMEI code can be found by looking on the battery of the phone, where it is printed between the two bar codes.

3. Enter the IMEI code, along with your other details, to the phone unlocking website that you have selected. You will need to provide them with details of the make and model of your phone as well as an email address and the IMEI number. When all the details have been inserted, press "OK" and an email will be sent with instructions.

4. Follow the instructions in your email, and insert the codes given when prompted. When this process has finished, you can test the phone by turning it off, and inserting the SIM card of another network. If it has been successful, then the name of the new network will appear in the middle of the screen. Your phone is now unlocked.
