Transfer Your Number & Minutes To A New Tracfone

You must call TracFone's consumer support hotline to transfer your phone number and airtime minutes.

In today's age of constant technological advancements, new models of cellular phones are introduced all the time.

TracFone, one of the leading prepaid cellular phone businesses in the country, also regularly introduces new cell phones for consumers to buy from such companies as Nokia, Samsung and Motorola. If you own an outdated TracFone and want to trade up to a newer model, and you want to keep your minutes and current phone number intact, the best way is to call the company themselves and have the staff there make the switch for you.

Instructions

1. Write down all of the information you want to keep from the TracFone you plan to stop using, including the names and numbers of contacts on your phone's contact list, because, once you switch your number and minutes over to your new TracFone, all memory will be automatically erased from your old phone. Also, write down the number of airtime minutes you have left to ensure you get the correct number transferred.

2. Use a landline telephone or the cell phone of a friend to call TracFone's consumer hotline at 800-867-7183. Press the "1" button on your landline phone to select that you want to hear directions in English. Press the "1" to select that you're calling about a TracFone, and then press "1" again to be directed to a customer service representative who will make the transfer.

3. Inform the customer support representative that you bought a new TracFone and that you'd like to transfer your phone number and all your airtime minutes to the new model. The representative will ask you for the serial number of your old and new TracFones, which can be found under the "Prepaid" menu on both phones. You will be directed to enter a series of codes into both the old and the new TracFones so listen to the representative's instructions carefully.

4. Confirm that the correct number of airtime minutes has been transferred to your new TracFone after the customer service representative has finished giving you instructions. If you do not see the correct number transferred, tell the representative this and do not hang up until you see the correct amount has been transferred.

5. Perform a test call with your new TracFone to ensure it is working properly. If it is not, call the TracFone hotline again and follow the same menu prompts to reach the customer support representatives.
