When cell phones, such as the Nokia 6265I, refuse to turn on, feelings of panic can arise. Before rushing out to buy a new phone, some simple steps may help you narrow down the source of the problem and point you in the right direction for resolution.
Battery Contacts
If dirt and pocket lint have somehow found their way into the battery compartment, they could be breaking the circuit needed to power up your phone. Remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Dip the end of a Q-tip in some rubbing alcohol and gently clean the gold-colored contacts on the battery and the phone. Once the contacts are completely dry, put the phone back together and power it up. If it still does not work, there may be a more concerning issue with the battery.
Battery Damage
Inspect the battery for signs of discoloration or melting. If these symptoms are found, it means the battery may have gotten too hot at some point and is no longer functional. Contact your carrier to discuss options for replacement. If the battery is still within its 12 month warranty, a new one will be free. If the warranty has expired, expect to pay for a replacement.
Liquid Damage
If the battery shows no signs of damage, it is possible that the Nokia 6265I was exposed to liquid at some point and internal circuits have become corroded, preventing the device from powering up. Look underneath the battery for a small, round sticker about the size of a pencil eraser. If the phone was exposed to moisture the sticker will be red. You will need to contact your carrier to discuss repair or replacement options. Liquid damage voids the warranty, so replacement may be costly unless you have handset insurance.
